For families living off-grid, light often means buying kerosene every day. The d.light S1 offers a different future: sunlight becomes evening light, freeing up money for food, education and other everyday needs.
Launched at less than US$10, this compact all-in-one light combines a solar panel, a lithium iron phosphate battery and highly efficient LEDs. It charges during the day and provides light for reading, working, cooking and spending time together after sunset—without fuel costs, smoke or an open flame.
An accessible product with lasting impact: less money spent on kerosene, fewer emissions from burning it, and more freedom in everyday life. Its successor, the S3, is described by d.light as the next generation of the world’s best-selling solar lantern.
Research & product design
During his in-house role at d.light, Ti el Attar led qualitative consumer research, field studies and prototype testing in Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania, and created the final product design for the S1.
